Recycle Your Windows!

Recycling is a ‘green’ practice that has been around for quite a number of years. With it being all of our responsibilities to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum people are always coming up with new ways to stay ahead of the green game. A fairly new concept is the recycling of double glazing windows. Double Glazing windows are seen as a ‘green’ idea in themselves and so to be able to recycle them is like a double bonus. Even though they are used to conserve energy, once they have out lived their usefulness they typically end up in a landfill. Recycling them prevents this and also avoids the energy it would take to make a new set of windows.
Consumers, given the choice, will nearly always opt for the green option. There is a plant in Germany now dedicated to the recycling of PVCu windows.

There are now proposals to bring this practice to the United Kingdom and I feel it will really take off. Even if you do not directly purchase recycled windows you can still take some responsibility in this area by making sure the people who fit your windows do not throw any old windows that may be made from recyclable materials into a skip.

There are dedicated agencies who will collect old window frames for recycling if you contact them they will happily remove your old materials.  This can include scrap  pieces of PVCu and broken frames, this materials if often used to make garden furniture.
